What is an Entertaiment?

Entertaiment is anything that amuses or diverts a person from their daily routine, whether it’s the clown at the kid’s birthday party, a Broadway show, a stadium rock concert or your friends fighting over the last potato chip. It derives from the Old French entretener, which meant to keep or entertain guests. The prefix inter means “inside” and the suffix tenere is related to Indo-European root ten, meaning to stretch or enlarge, which may explain why the word entertainment is often used to describe the act of making something larger than life.
