The Daily News Goes Digital

Daily News

Founded in 1919, the Daily News is a tabloid newspaper based in Jersey City, NJ. The paper’s circulation reached a peak of 2.4 million copies a day in 1947.

Pulitzer Prizes

During the Pulitzer Prize ceremony on Monday, a gold medal was awarded to the Daily News for public service reporting. The Daily News won the award for a series on suicide and alcoholism, as well as a series on the Teamsters union.

The news organization also received awards for feature writing and editorial cartooning. Two of the News’ staff members, Heidi Evans and Beverly Weintraub, wrote editorials in support of workers’ rights. This was the news organization’s 10th Pulitzer prize.

In addition, the Anchorage Daily News was awarded a gold medal for public service reporting. The news organization teamed up with ProPublica, a nonprofit news organization, as part of the Local Reporting Network to cover a series on rural Alaska villages that lack police protection. The report revealed that one-third of the villages have no police protection.

Locations in New York City

Located in Midtown Manhattan’s Turtle Bay neighborhood, the Daily News Building is an architectural landmark. It was constructed between 1928 and 1930 and designed by Raymond Hood and John Mead Howells. It is a 37-story building with a facade that includes a sunburst motif and a relief image of office workers.

The Daily News Building’s most notable feature is its lobby. It features a giant world globe centerpiece that rotates beneath a black glass dome. It also has a floor compass and a series of clocks and meteorological dials.

The Daily News Building was a winner of a 1922 competition organized by the Chicago Tribune. The design, which is considered one of the first large Art Deco buildings in New York City, was commissioned by Joseph Medill Patterson.

Digital editions

Several publishers are experimenting with various digital editions, from the time-crunched reader edition to the stories-like apps. The Daily News is no different, as it has a robust digital edition available to its subscribers.

The E-Edition is the digital equivalent of a print copy of the paper. Users can access it from any computer or mobile device. You can also access the e-edition on Saturdays, where you’ll find full local digital access, including subscription-only stories and video and audio features.

The Daily News also has a mobile app, available for Android and iOS devices, that offers an app-like experience. It allows users to swipe between newspaper pages to read articles or print them for offline use. The app also includes a full list of stories, and thumbnails of the printed page.
