The automobile revolutionized transportation in America. During the first decades of the twentieth century, the middle class grew in size and more people could afford to own cars. The advent of the Ford Model T in 1914 made mass personal “automobility” a reality. With its moving assembly line, the Model T introduced new methods of production to the automotive industry. This led to the growth of auto manufacturing companies, such as the Ford Motor Company and General Motors.
