What is Entertaiment?

Entertaiment is a broad and varied category of human activity. It has a long history, is present in many forms, and can be a catalyst for learning, insight, and social change. However, entertainment can also be degrading and harmful if it is not properly regulated. For example, a woman entertainer who exposes her breasts in view of customers can be charged with prostitution. Moreover, the emergence of new technologies can challenge existing categories of entertainment and create entirely new ones. The word entertainment derives from the Medieval Latin intertenere, which is derived from the Latin root tenere meaning to hold inside.
